The South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) has disqualified 69 people in Mahikeng, in the North West, from receiving grants after reviews revealed they have additional income.
In a statement, SASSA said 700 out of the 1,200 identified individuals came forward for reviews in the province this week.
This comes as the agency and credit bureaus flagged beneficiaries suspected of having additional incomes.
The beneficiaries in question have been urged to visit local offices to review whether they still qualify for grant money.
SASSA CEO Themba Motlou explained: “We also visited our offices, just to make an assessment if there are beneficiaries who came for enquiries that did not get the money. We found that we did not have a lot, we found that one of those confirmed that he was working and he came to review. A lot of people came for disability grant, and they interacted with the doctor.”
