There have been growing concerns around safety in the Table Mountain National Park after a woman was recently attacked along the Jeep trail.

According to the Friends of Table Mountain group, female hikers are 70% more likely than men to be victims of violent attacks on the mountain.

While park management confirmed plans to increase safety measures, it said this would require more equipment and technology.

Table Mountain National Park manager Megan Taplin adds that a recent review of the park’s management plan received a good rating.

“It was an independent agency that reviewed everything we’ve done over the last 10 years to see how well we’ve managed to implement our management plan; we scored just under 75% which we’re very happy with, and that study also identified the areas where we can improve.”
