JMPD officer sentenced to six years for culpable homicide

In 2018 when the incident occurred, Raymond Mzizi, was driving a State vehicle on the Golden Highway, south of Johannesburg, when he crashed into a Toyota Corolla.

A Johannesburg Metro Police Department (JMPD) officer has been sentenced to six years in prison by the Lenasia Magistrates Court for ramming his vehicle into another and killing three people.  

In 2018 when the incident occurred, Raymond Mzizi, was driving a State vehicle on the Golden Highway, south of Johannesburg, when he crashed into a Toyota Corolla.

The car was driven by a father, who had his three daughters and a grandchild as passengers.

Two of his children and the grandchild died on the scene.

The independent police investigative directorate (IPID)’s spokesperson Lizzy Suping

“Mzizi was arrested at the scene and charged for culpable homicide, drunken driving and driving a State vehicle without authorisation. He was sentenced to six years for culpable homicide Twelve months for driving a State vehicle without authorisation. The sentences were ordered to run concurrently. He was acquitted on a charge of drunken driving.”
