Wage negotiations between the airline and union Solidarity have hit a deadlock.

FlySafair customers may need to make alternative travel arrangements for the coming week as wage negotiations between the airline and union Solidarity hit a deadlock.

The air passenger carrier unsuccessfully proposed a 5.7% salary increase.

The parties are expected to meet on Thursday under the guidance of the Commission for Conciliation, Mediation and Arbitration (CCMA) to finalise strike rules after three months of fruitless negotiations.

FlySafair pilots are demanding a 10.5% salary increase for the 2025/2026 financial year, a 4.5% increase in the consumer price inflation for 2026/2027 and 4% increase for 2027/2028.

“There’s a dispute about a change in the rostering system, which also remains unresolved, and this has led to strained relationship prior to the negotiations kicking off,” said Solidarity spokesperson Helgard Cronje.

“Another contentious issue is the way in which off days and leave days are administered by the company. Parties are meeting with the CCMA during which picketing rules will be finalised. After which, Solidarity will be in a position to formally issue a strike notice.”
