Cachalia replaces Senzo Mchunu, who has been placed on an indefinite leave of absence following damning allegations of corruption against him.

Professor Firoz Cachalia has officially been sworn in as the acting minister of police.

He replaces Senzo Mchunu, who has been placed on an indefinite leave of absence following damning allegations of corruption against him.

Cachalia was sworn in on Friday at the Union Buildings in Pretoria.

“I solemnly affirm that I will be faithful to the Republic of South Africa and will obey, respect and uphold the Constitution and all other laws of the Republic and I undertake to hold my office as minister with honour and dignity and to be a true and faithful councillor and not to divulge directly or indirectly any secret matter entrusted to me,” Cachalia said when taking his oath of office.
