The city’s Disaster and Emergency Management Services said a control room went up in flames on Thursday.

The metro said it is still unclear when power will be restored.

“Intense damage was experienced inside the ripple control room housing the electrical breakers. The actual cause of the fire is undetermined and is still under investigation by fire safety officers together with the City of Ekurhuleni electrical engineers,” said Ekurhuleni emergency spokesperson William Tladi.
