Five learners, who attacked their peer in viral video footage, have been suspended from David Mama Senior Secondary School in Mdantsane, in the Eastern Cape.
The footage sent shockwaves over the weekend, where the pupils can be seen bullying a female learner and hitting her on the head.
The incident occurred inside a scholar transport bus on Friday after school.
The provincial Department of Transport (DoT has additionally suspended the bus driver for not stepping in as a disciplinarian during the ordeal.
The Department of Transport’s spokesperson, Unathi Binqose, said they will be working closely with the Department of Education.
“Eastern Cape Transport MEC, Colin Mata, has described the lack of intervention by the driver as equally appalling as the acts of violence and humiliation meted out against the young lady.”
