The Democratic Alliance (DA) in Johannesburg wants Mayor Dada Morero to make public the terms of reference for his bomb squad, which he recruited to save the city from a state of decline.
The opposition party in Johannesburg said council had been kept in the dark about the work of the bomb squad and how it was being funded.
Morero, in June, announced a group of experienced public servants who would assist in the city’s administration.
It’s been a month since Morero announced the bomb squad, however, the DA said it’s yet to see what difference it has made in the city.
The squad includes five people – four former Johannesburg City managers and the former head of the SABC, Snuki Zikalala, who is also the current African National Congress (ANC) Veterans League president.
DA caucus leader Belinda Kayser-Echeozonjoku said council was still to be apprised of what specifically they were meant to do.
“We don’t know how much money is being allocated, despite the fact that it is unconstitutional in our view. These are parallel structures, we heads of departments that should be doing all the work.”
Attempts to get comment from the mayor’s office have been unsuccessful.
