he Hawks in the Western Cape have welcomed the seven-year jail terms handed down to two drug traffickers.
Zimbabwean nationals, Albert Tinemhamo Nemara and Tinashe Mhonde, were arrested in 2022 following their arrest in Worcester.
They were nabbed with bags containing crystal methamphetamine (tik) inside a truck they were driving.
Hawks’ provincial spokesperson, Siyabulela Vukubi, said the pair entered into a plea agreement with the state.
“On count 1: Contravention of the Drugs and Drug Trafficking Act, Act 140 of 1992: sentenced to twelve (12) years imprisonment, of which five (5) years was suspended for a period of five (5) years. On count 2: Â Contravention of the Immigration Act, Act 13 of 2002: sentenced to four (4) months direct imprisonment. The court ordered that the sentence imposed on count 2 will run concurrently with sentence imposed on count 1. Therefore, each accused will effectively spend seven(7) years direct imprisonment.”
