Police have arrested a man suspected of being involved in the murder of Ekurhuleni chief auditor Mpho Mafole
Mafole was shot in Kempton Park earlier this month while he was on his way home from work.
He had been investigating a ‘mysterious’ two billion rand revenue shortfall from the metro’s electricity accounts.
Gauteng police spokesperson, Dimakatso Nevhuhulwi, said the unnamed 40-year-old suspect was arrested by police on Sunday.
She says police are also looking for his alleged co-conspirator Hlanganani Mncwango.
“The team is also looking for a second suspect by the name of Hlanganani Agripper Mncwango, after a warrant of arrest was issued for him by the court. The police urge Mncwango to hand himself over to the nearest police station or anyone who may have information about his whereabouts to contact the Crime Stop Line at 08600 10111 or anonymously give tip-offs on MySapsApp, which can be downloaded on any smartphone.”
Mafole had only been working for three months as Ekurhuleni municipality’s head of forensic audits.
Ekurhuleni mayor says prior to his death, Mafole had submitted an interim report of what possibly could have led to the metro losing about two billion rand from its electricity revenue.
