The NPA was back in the Gqeberha High Court on Monday, seeking clarity on the judge’s reasons for acquitting Omotoso on dozens of counts, including rape, human trafficking, and racketeering.

Controversial Nigerian televangelist Timothy Omotoso’s legal team has slammed the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA)’s appeal, describing it as an abuse of the legal system and a desperate attempt to save face.

The NPA was back in the Gqeberha High Court on Monday, seeking clarity on the judge’s reasons for acquitting Omotoso on dozens of counts, including rape, human trafficking, and racketeering.

In April, the High Court ruled that the State failed to prove its case and found that key witnesses were unreliable.

Omotoso’s lawyer, Peter Dauberman, argues the State had ample time and opportunity to present a strong case, but failed to do so.

He accused prosecutors of trying to shift blame onto the court rather than accepting their own mistakes, and insists the acquittal was justified by the evidence.

Dauberman also warned that continuing to pursue the matter could waste judicial resources and further harm his client’s reputation.

“It would serve no purpose, and this request is an abuse of process; it’s an attempt to get your ladyship to revise your judgement.”

The High Court is expected to issue a clarification ruling next Tuesday.
