The City of Tshwane has budgeted more than R500 million to protect its municipal assets.
The money will be spent on new technology, motion detection, and other tools to assist its security personnel.
It said the additional funds will also assist law enforcement in arresting corrupt officials.
Three municipal workers were arrested on Tuesday for the theft of a R7 million transformer from the Laudium substation.
The trio will make their first court appearance in the Pretoria Magistrates Court on Wednesday.
According to the City of Tshwane, 39 cases were reported earlier in 2025 against employees who now face criminal prosecution.
The MMC for Community Safety, Hannes Coetzee, said authorities must ensure that internal systems are not undermined by individuals abusing their positions.
