4 suspects killed in shootout with police in Riverlea

Law enforcement said that they received intelligence about a planned business robbery at a shopping centre earlier on Sunday morning.

Four suspects were shot and killed during a shootout with police in Riverlea, Johannesburg.

Law enforcement said that they received intelligence about a planned business robbery at a shopping centre earlier on Sunday morning.

When officers attempted to intercept the suspects, a shootout ensued.

Provincial police spokesperson, Tintswalo Sibeko, said that two unlicensed firearms were recovered at the scene.

“A Crime Intelligence-driven operation was conducted on Sunday, 13 July 2025, by a multi-disciplinary team comprising of Gauteng TRT,  Anti-Gang Unit, Directorate for Priority Crime Investigations tracking team, Gauteng Traffic Police Airwing, SAPS National Counter-Intelligence, CAP Specialised Operations, Bad Boyz Security, and Tracker Connect.”
